Best Way to Pick Up a Huge Amount of Leaves
A huge pile of leaves is a collection problem first. Decide where they are going before you start moving them.
Pick the destination first
Compost, municipal pickup, bags, a tarp, or an approved disposal area all change how you work. The fastest way to waste an afternoon is making a perfect mountain of leaves and then realizing it has nowhere to go.
Work in smaller sections
Gather leaves from one area, move them, then continue. A tarp can make this easier on a large lawn because it turns many little piles into one hauling job.
Mulch only when the layer is manageable
Mulching can be useful when leaves are dry and not piled too deeply. It is not the answer to a thick, wet blanket of leaves. In that case, collect them first.
Use a blower for gathering, not magic
