The Westinghouse WGen11500TFc has an obvious appeal during an outage: three fuel choices. If one becomes inconvenient, having another option can help.
But natural gas is not just another bottle you attach when gasoline runs out. The supply and connection need to be suitable, and the generator’s output changes with the fuel. That is where this purchase needs more thought than its 14,500-watt headline suggests.

The Short Answer
I’d shortlist the WGen11500TFc for a substantial 120/240V backup plan, especially when a professional has confirmed that an available natural-gas supply can support it. I’d size the loads using its 9,500W natural-gas running rating if that’s the fuel I intended to use.
If you only need a few essentials, or have no practical way to move, connect, and fuel a large generator, more capacity may create more work than it solves.

Westinghouse’s specifications list 120/240V output, CO shutdown, remote/electric starting, and a 230-pound dry weight. The 9.5-gallon tank is advertised for 19 hours at quarter load or 9.5 hours at half load. These figures describe different operating conditions, not a guaranteed outage duration.
The Amazon listing identifies WGen11500TFc. It is different from the similarly named dual-fuel and EFI models.
Natural gas needs a plan before delivery
Ask a qualified gas professional to assess the supply, pipe run, pressure, generator demand, and other appliances drawing fuel at the same time. The existence of a barbecue connection does not answer those questions.
Also confirm the current box contents. Westinghouse’s accessory list includes a propane regulator/hose, but does not list a natural-gas hose. Don’t build your budget around an older unboxing video that shows accessories the current offer may not include.
The useful comparison is the complete working setup: generator, approved fuel connection, electrical connection where needed, delivery, and installation. If those costs erase the reason you preferred this model, find that out before buying it.
A gas utility supply can also be interrupted. Tri-fuel capability gives you options; it does not make any one fuel guaranteed during a disaster. Decide what your fallback would actually be and where it would come from.
What owners report about output quality
Westinghouse advertises low total harmonic distortion, with its specification table stating 5% or less. That is a manufacturer claim, not a result we have independently verified.
In a Reddit owner report about the WGen11500TFc’s THD, the author describes readings above the advertised level under some household loads while still reporting that the connected equipment operated. The post is worth reading, but the instrument, load mix, and method have not been independently validated here.
I would not turn that one account into a model-wide defect claim, or ignore it and promise perfect power quality. If a particular appliance has strict supply requirements, confirm compatibility with its manufacturer and include it in a properly planned commissioning check.
A separate owner discussion comparing the 11500TFc and a larger model includes praise for value alongside disagreement about construction details. That is another reason to use current model documentation for specifications instead of repeating technical claims from memory.
Compare the connection, not just the generator
On natural gas, the 9,500W running rating works out to about 39.6A at 240V. A hypothetical 30A, 240V connection represents only 7,200W. These calculations show why an existing inlet can limit what you can use, even when the generator itself has capacity left.
They are not installation instructions or a complete circuit-sizing calculation. An electrician needs to check the full arrangement, including neutral and grounding compatibility, individual leg loading, and protection. A larger receptacle on the machine doesn’t upgrade the wiring at your house.
For air conditioning, well pumps, and other motors, starting requirements matter too. A neighbor’s success with a similar house is not enough to size yours. Bring the equipment information to the assessment.
Living with a large portable generator
Choose the operating location and walk the storage-to-use route before it arrives. Think about slopes, thresholds, loose gravel, and the person who will move it when you are away. Wheels help with rolling; they don’t make a heavy unit easy to lift.
Then write down the outage routine. Someone needs to position it, inspect it, connect it correctly, monitor it, and follow the maintenance schedule. Remote starting is convenient after those jobs are handled. It doesn’t make a portable generator equivalent to a permanently installed automatic standby system.
If your plan requires unattended recovery while the house is empty, compare that requirement directly with a professionally designed standby setup. Don’t assume the key fob solves it.
My verdict
The WGen11500TFc is a reasonable candidate when the larger load and fuel flexibility solve specific problems. Its strongest purchase case is a complete backup plan that has been sized on the intended fuel and checked for installation cost.
If you don’t need natural gas, compare the DuroMax XP13000EH on total cost and requirements. If you only need basic 120V loads, start smaller with the WEN DF360iX and a measured load list.
